What’s on! All things Boats, Fishing and Family Fun!
G’day all, hope your year is off to a great start and you’ve managed to squeeze in some rip-roaring, outdoor family fun!
We hit the Geelong Outdoor Living Show in January and had an awesome weekend, it was an extra-exciting expo for us being the launch of our marine line and we had a blast meeting the many passionate boaties who stopped by for a look-see and chat.
The Ultimate Fishing Expo landed in Melbourne on the 18-19 February and it was a cracker of an event, with experts, tips, the latest gear, science, activities, give-aways for the kids and much more. The World Recreational Fishing Conference followed on the 20-22 February, a rare opportunity to get a big-picture understanding of recreational fishing both here and around the globe.
If some FREE family fishing time sounds like your cup of tea, make sure to check out the Hooked on Lakes Entrance event on the 12th March for all sorts of fishing goodness including seafood cooking demos, kids clinics, expert tips and more. All clinics are free but make sure to book. For more Vic-centric fishing events take a look at the Victorian Fisheries Authority website.
If you’re fishing in the Northern Territory right now, the one that got away might have cost you a million dollars! The Million Dollar Fish competition is up and running with nine tagged fish worth a whopping million bucks each if caught and 100 red-tagged fish up for $10,000 apiece. You must register to be eligible for the moola. The Queensland government is throwing a similar event, the Fish’n SIPs comp with prizes ranging from $1,000 to $20,000 per tagged fish.
Take note if you’re heading to WA to fish off the coast between Kalbarri and Augusta as new recreational fishing restrictions are in place for catching demersal scalefish off boats.
Fishing comp tip: Plan ahead! Make sure you have the right lures, line, hooks and rods for your target fish and schedule your outing around the tides.
If you’re looking to turn your love of all things boats into a career this one might be for you, the Boating Industry of Australia (BIA) has an Industry Immersion Day coming up on the 22nd March in Victoria. If the kids have inherited the marine-gene, take them along, students are welcome. To give you an idea of what’s on offer here’s the 2022 Boating and Marine Industry Career Guide.
A call-out to all boaters and skiers cruising the inland waterways of Victoria, eyes out for hazards and make sure you’re aware of changes to permitted speeds as water levels drop. For more all-round safety info the Maritime Safety Victoria’s website is a must-visit resource.
Lastly a quickie for competition-hungry wakeboarders, live it up with this calendar of upcoming events courtesy of Wakeboard Australia. Have fun and enjoy the adrenaline!
